JANA (female) My owner had brought me to Brigitte because he wanted me to be castrated. He left his phone number and wanted to pick me up after the operation. Well, he lied! The phone number was wrong and so I was waiting for a while in a cage. After a while Brigitte realized that my owner wouldn't come to get me so she opened the door to let me run in her garden. Immediately, I liked it in Brigitte's house and she fell in love with me (no wonder, because of my good looks). Now I live at Brigitte's house with a lot of other cats, good food and plenty of water. And the best thing is. I am allowed to sleep in her bed. After some time at Brigitte and Werners hous, Jana run away. During the stay at the DRCS, Janette from Denmark was looking after me.

DAENG (male)
When I was about three months old, a silly construction worker painted me red with oil paint, without realizing that by doing so he almost killed me. Some animal friends took me to the DRCS and there Dr. Somsak treated me. Since the paint was already dry, it could not be removed with any solvent. It took me days to tear out all that scabby red fur. And I can tell you that it hurt like hell!!! But I did not stop until the last bit of paint was gone, as was most of my coat and my back was completely naked. My coat has grown back nicely and now I have turned into a handsome tomcat. I am living in Brigitte's house with two other cats and I do hope that the large number of dogs living next to the house will have an animal home soon, because then our excursions into "freedom" will not be that stressful. My name really should be DAM ('black' in Thai) but thanks to the red color I am called DAENG ('red' in Thai). Airlie from Australia has adopted me. Thank you very much! The house became too busy for me so I've moved in with Brigitte's neighbour. Sometimes I wave over at Brigitte just to say hello.

![]() Yes, that's me, five years before

MAC (male) I have been living at the DRCS since the year 2000. I was brought to Brigitte's and Werner's house by some tourists together with my brother PING when we were 3 years old. I not only had lost my mother but also my fur. It was itching badly and I was always hungry. I had been chased away very often because people were scared that they might catch a disease. It was a very hard time for me! But that was over when I came to Brigitte's house. I immediately got a delicious rice meal and dry food was always at hand. I was at dog's paradise! Well, not quite. One of the helpers sprayed me with some stinking liquid every week – that was not really great. Nevertheless, the itching stopped already after the first treatment and very soon my fur began to grow. When I was brought to Brigitte's house there didn't exist a wall around the house so we all played around on the terrace. There were not so many dogs at the house and cats didn't live there at all. Bad luck, I'm a good hunter! After a while they built a fence around the house and I had to quit my walks to the market. It even got worse! On the 15th of November 2002 the first compound of the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam was completed and I was brought there with many of my dog friends. We have a lot of space to run around – but unfortunately there are not as many visitors. I love to be stroked.
Vanessa from Germany is looking after me now. Thank you very much! |

Josie & Julie before and after Josie (mother) had a hair cut at Sakda's Beauty Parlour
|
JULIE AND JOSIE (females) We are mother and daughter and were living very happily with our owner until she decided she couldn't look after us - we have special hair which has become matted because our owner wouldn't brush us or give us a haircut. So, soon we will be visiting Sakda's Beauty Parlour when we will get a cut 'n' blow dry and possibly even a manicure. Brigitte says that, if a new home is found, the two of us must stay together. Pearl, Ken and Denise from New Zealand are looking after us now. Thank you very much!

MERLIN (male)
I am from Lamai. I was so afraid, I could only sit in a corner at the Food centre. Some nice tourists brought me to the Rescue Centre but, at first, I was frightened of the other cats at the Centre. However, the other cats ignored me completely and, after a while, I stopped being frightened of them. So, when a new cat comes to the Centre, I ignore it like the other cats ignored me. Now at the Centre, I play with the other cats all day and I sleep on the bed at night. Jess from England is now taking care of me. Thank you very much.

HOBO (male) I was brought to the shelter in November 2005 by some tourists. They had found me on the street without fur and with a whole in my leg. I really looked wretched! I was brought to the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam where my wound was treated immediately. There, the helpers also washed me regularly with a disgusting stinking stuff. That was against the mange that had caused the hair loss. And look how it worked! After 2 months my fur had grown back completely and the wound has healed as well. I now live together with my doggyfriends on the terrace of the shelter. Every time visitors come I am among the first ones to greet them. Bine from Berlin in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much. Hobo found a new home by Pompui in Lamai Chalet.

Hurrah, I've found a home with a couple of nice animal friends who live on the island. The food I get at my new joint is the soft cat food and not mixed with rice - ah bliss! They promised I can go back to the DRCS any time.
