ELLEN (female) I came with Tiana, Raoul, Tamila and Gerold to DRCS.
We were put into a cardboard box and placed on the back of a pick-up
belonging to DRCS. Fortunately it did not rain that night. We cried as loud
as we could all night, but nobody heard us. Since the box was tightly
secured and we were only six weeks old, that is all we could do. Finally in
the morning somebody found us. We were so hungry! Brigitte was very
delighted when she saw our group in the box. In the beginning Werner gave us
additional milk in the bottle. We all felt very comfortable here at DRCS.
There was ample food, and most of the big cats were nice to us. The whole
day was filled with eating, sleeping and playing. We met Lisa. Lisa (sponsor
dogs and cats 25) is a very special cat. She is devotedly taking care of all
kittens. She lets us suck at her nipples - that is really calming. And she
always cleaned us thoroughly and showed us how to do that. Lisa has nurtured
so many kittens without mothers - that is why Daniela and Claus from Vienna in Austria are now looking after me. Thank you very much.

SABI (female) I was brought to the DRCS when I was a little tiny kitten. Some tourists found me on the roadside and figured that my mum would not come back. They put me in a cage for four weeks and made me watch all the other cats running and playing around. Don’t think that I enjoyed that! But unfortunately there are so many dangerous viruses in Brigitte and Werners house and a lot of little kittens, so they all have to be vaccinated first and then stay isolated from the others for some time. This procedure has saved many lives already. When I was finally allowed to leave the cage, I showed my best side. And it worked! After I got spayed, I didn’t land up in the cat house at the big shelter, No, I was brought back to Brigitte and Werners house! I have a lovely soft fur and love to be snuggle. Antoinette from Effretikon in Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

DASTY (male) Honestly speaking, I don’t really feel like talking about my past. Ohh and have I mentioned, I sneaked myself into the DRCS! They only found out when they did the yearly check up and vaccinated all the cats. Of course I had no registration card! Thankfully nobody made a big deal out of it. They took my picture, got me a registration card and I can now legally continue to eat my Brekkies. I’m actually a very lovely cat and luckily I have found my own personal sponsor now….I’m so happy to spend my future in this posh cat house!
Thomas from Leimen in Germany is now looking after me. The sponsorship for me is a birthday present from Silke to her friend Thomas. Thank you very much!

METZI (female) I was picked up by the DRCS when I was a very small and very mangy puppy. I'm not exactly sure but I believe the reason why I used to be 'naked' was because my mum and I lived on the street and got our food from some dirty smelly garbage bins. One day my mum disappeared and that's when I was brought to the shelter. It took me some time to make friends here, probably because I was so smelly. Thankfully the DRCS-people didn't care much about that and gave their best to make me swallow those colorful pills twice a day and every so often they gave me an injection and told me that it was only for my own good. My fur has started to grow for the first time in my life and I hope that I will soon be a pretty good looking dog...well I definitely smell much better than I used to.. Claudia from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

DAFI (female) Until not long ago I had a very nice home. A big family (even though I was never allowed to go inside the house and often they didn’t pay any attention to me, I was proud to have my own family), there was a huge garden and we even had sea view. One day my family took me away with the car and I was already dead excited to be going on a drive. When we stopped in front of the DRCS gate, I didn’t understand that I was supposed to get out of the car because of all the barking and I started to feel a little scared. A friendly Thai man took me in his arms and put me into the teenager compound. I’ve never seen my family again. I’ve never really understood why they wanted to get rid of me but meanwhile I don’t really care anymore. I didn’t really feel comfortable in the teenager compound, I’ve always preferred the bigger dogs. I’m still a pretty young dog and it makes me feel strong when I’m surrounded by all those ‘grownups’. I am looking forward to soon be an adult myself. The food here at the shelter is delicious and definitely much better than it ever was at home. Nicole from Jegensdorf in Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much! |

HOLZANA (female) I am actually a real temple dog! My big brother and I were born close to the temple in Lamai and the monks kept an eye on us. We did not know where our mum disappeared. As the head of the family, my brother was taking good care of me until we both started to loose weight and got weaker without knowing why. When the DRCS-Temple-Team showed up, we could tell from their faces that something was seriously wrong with us. First aid at the temple was not possible as we were told that we would need a lot of daily medicine for quite some time. And that’s how it was. We got a really nice room in the puppy house and were well looked after. With every passing day we felt a little better and to be honest, if you don’t feel well it’s easier to stay at the puppy house than at the temple. Not long ago the vet gave the O.K. for us to return to the temple. During the months we spent at the shelter, a lot has changed at the temple and many new dogs we've never seen before are now living there. We were scared and didn’t feel comfortable at all. We tried to make it clear to the volunteers that we want to go back to the puppy house. Life at the shelter is so much easier and my big brother can still keep an eye on me. I am very thankful that we were allowed to come back to the puppy house. Hildegard from Walde in Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

Sabine from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much! TEXT IN ENGLISH WILL FOLLOW SOON

Kein Tierarzt würde so etwas machen. "Schläfert" er die Hunde selber ein? Was meint er mit einschläfern? Vergiften?

SANTIA (male) I was picked up from the street and brought to the DRCS when I was still a little mangy teenager. Thanks to my young age (and my good looks), I was allowed into the puppy house. Even though I had to stay in isolation for the first two weeks and could only from far watch the others playing, I thought it was pretty cool to have all those other playmates around me. It didn’t take long for my fur to grow back and finally I didn’t feel like scratching myself all day long. I don’t know exactly what then went wrong with me. I felt a little dizzy and was brought to the vet. Unfortunately I cannot remember what happened after that. Back at the puppy house, I couldn’t stop shaking and until today I look like I’m constantly listening to some really crazy techno music. A lovely volunteer explained to me that I’ve got a really bad nervous disease. It is often difficult to get up the steps and I only wish I could control my shaking whilst eating my food as it tends to get a little messy. However I have to say that I’m loving it here and I have found so many friends which I wouldn’t want to miss anymore. Thanks to my nervous disease, I can stay in the puppy house as long as I wish. Renate from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

NORA (female) Unfortunately the first three months of my life were everything else but nice. I was locked up in a tiny little cage where I could hardly move and my so called owner kept kicking me. But even as a little puppy I had a strong voice and so I just kept on howling until one day a lovely neighbor came to rescue me. He took me in his strong arms and brought me to the Dog Rescue Center where I finally had some other little ones to play with. I didn't really like it in the big compound as the bigger dogs kept nipping me. That's why I can now stay in the big open kitchen area where we have plenty of space to fool around. My life has changed for the better and I have never felt more free than here at the shelter!
Karoliina from Finland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

FINNY (female) My little sister and I were saved by two Finnish tourists. Without them we probably wouldn’t have survived. My sister was very very sick and I also didn’t feel too well. Unfortunately I was unable to help her and most of the time we were just sleeping in a quiet place behind an empty house with hardly any food to be found. Once we arrived at the DRCS shelter, they put us in a little box. I knew straight away that those people with the Team-T-shirt were only trying to help us. My sister was a little more suspicious though. They put her on a drip and I had to be real careful to not pull that thing out while snuggling up to her. Two weeks later we were already on the way to become healthy strong puppies and settled in well in the puppy house. Only recently I got to know that those two Finnish tourists planned to take us to Finland. Unfortunately nobody has ever heard from them again and we missed the chance to find an owner when we were still 2 young and pretty puppies. Last week my sister got lucky and I could watch her walking out of the DRCS-gate with her new family. I miss her but I am very happy for her and hopefully one day I will find my own family too. If not, not to worry. I love it here, made a lot of friends and can enjoy my teenager days here at the puppy house. Roger from Schaffhausen in Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

OLIVIA (female) I was brought to the shelter by Alan from Australia. He realized that I was sick and he could not look after me as he was returning home. I felt really unwell when I came here and could do nothing but sit. It turns out I had tick fever. I was given special medication and gradually picked up over a couple of weeks. I became so well, I made a break for freedom. However, I was brought back as I am not really able to survive on the road. Also the food here is better than on the streets (I've put on sooo much weight since coming here). This is the second time I have visited the shelter. The first time I was only in for neutering and was put back on the street as I was in good condition. As I left the last time, I was given a collar with 'Feed Me' written on it and many tourists did feed me. Now I'm happy here at the shelter and this is where I will stay!
Ilka and Ralf from Hilden in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

OLIVER (male) I'm scared of everything! I'm scared of loud noises, the dark, cats and even geckoes. My owners got fed up with me as they wanted me as a guard dog and I got frightened of the burglars when they broke into the house. As a result, as well as my owners having their DVD stolen, I was brought to dog rescue. I'm getting better now and am not so frightened of everything. I like it when the volunteers come round and brush my beautiful coat. Sabrina from Como in Italy is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

AMY
(female)
I am Amy. Beginning of June 2006 I was hit by a motorbike on Chaweng Beach Road. Nobody helped me but I have made it in front of a pharmacy with my injured leg. I grew up with one of my brothers on the street but the passed few months I was alone. I don't know where my brother is. After I had found a place in front of the pharmacy, one day two animal loving tourists came up to me: Andrea and Tobi from Germany. I was very happy to see them and wagged my tail like crazy. At first I didn't know what to do with these sticks they gave me, but after a while I realized that it was something delicious to eat. After that, they came every day and took care of me, cuddled me, and gave me something to eat. One day, Tobi lifted me up from the ground and we took a taxi together with Andrea. When we got off, it was quite a hike to the DRCS, but Tobi carried me all the way, since I was not able to walk with my injured leg. That's how I came to Brigitte and Werners' house. Andrea from Essen in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SARA (female) I came to the Rescue Center as a small, helpless puppy. It didn't look good in the beginning as I had diarrhoea and was so thin. I was too young to get any injections! However, I’m a fighter and Sandra (long-time volunteer at DRCS) always let me go into the kitchen where I partook of the cat food, including the fish at the fish party. Brigitte kept me at her house as she hoped to find a new home for me. As I have lived here for so long, this is my home and I’m happy here. Every day, sick dogs come in and I have to keep fighting to maintain my position. Sometimes these new dogs are huge with large wounds or totally starved and without fur. Sometimes they are very aggressive and that’s when I go to my favourite safe spot just outside the house. Marina and Rene from Berlin in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

SPORTY (female) Nick from India took me with him to Bangkok. Unfortunately he was not able to take care for me there since they had only a very little room for the whole family in Bangkok. I love to run and jump around and definitely need some space! In Bangkok you can only find government animal shelters and they are mostly full. Nick didn't want to leave me there, so he brought me to Koh Samui to DRCS. Here I run around in the shelter and play with my doggie friends the whole day. That's a lot of fun! Of course, I would prefer my own little family but you cannot have everything Stephanie from Essen in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

ROMA
(female) Ben from Australia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!
A nice Italian couple initially wanted to take me to their home country. They brought me to the DRCS and I was supposed to be send to Italy four months later. They had given me a red collar so nobody would send the wrong dog. The couple had spent their holidays on Samui and let me sleep on their terrace and fed me. I have accompanied them all the time. We had a lot of fun. Unfortunately, the address was wrong and they had never called again.

HOPPA (female) I cant walk normally anymore since I was badly hit by a car. I never had a real owner but I was always a strong and confident stray dog who understood how to survive and to enjoy a happy life. That all changed after the accident and I lost the will to fight. Thankfully Jay never stopped to see the strong dog in me and took me into the puppy house where I got very special care and treatment for many months. Thanks to all the patience people and the little naughty puppies I have found my reason to live again..... Stephanie from Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

DEMI (female) When I arrived here I had a very bad skin disease, unfortunately not only in my face. Salve was applied daily and after an endlessly long time I started looking really nice again. I had to sit in a kennel for many weeks, I just wanted to get out of there. When I finally could leave the kennel, the others were really nice to me. I settled in the huge pride of Brigitte and Werner very well and I would like to stay with them forever. I heard some stories about the cat shelter in Taling Ngam: they supposedly don't serve freshly cooked fish in the evening?!? – can't believe it!!!
Angela from Australia is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

METTI (male) I have been at the DRCS since I was a very little puppy. We were abandoned in a carton box on a very busy road somewhere outside Nathon. We were all running around in the middle of the road when some animal friendly Thais saved our lives. They stopped the cars, picked us up and brought us to the DRCS. My sisters have already found a home when they were about two months old. I have settled in well here and love playing with my doggie and volunteer friends! Silke and Melissa from the Panketal in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!
