ZORA (female)

I came to the DRCS with my brothers Hugo and Harry and my sister Laila. We were dumped at the Waterfront Resort in Bophut without our mother, so Sandra, one of the volunteer helpers, picked us up and brought us to Brigitte's house. We like it here very much, the food is very good and there are a lot of friends to play with. Ever since I am a girl I am more quiet than my brother Harry and of course more ladylike.

Karin from Heidelberg in Germany is looking after me now. Thank you very much!

HARRY (male)

I came to the DRCS with my brother Hugo and my two sisters Zora and Laila. We were dumped at the Waterfront Resort in Bophut without our mother, so Sandra, one of the volunteer helpers, picked us up and brought us to Brigitte's house. We like it here very much, the food is very good and there are a lot of friends to play with. We are healthy and strong, and I am the cheekiest of the bunch.

Very good news: I have found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was living at the shelter, Joanna from Auckland in New Zealand was looking after me. Thank you very much!

KIMI  (male)

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was living at the DRCS, Romy and Fred from Wöllstadt in Germany were looking after me. Thank you very much!

ALONSO (male)

I was living at the temple for quite a while when the dog catchers from DRCS appeared. At the beginning, I was a little suspicious, because there are not many people feeding us chicken wings. But these were only meant to lull us into a false sense of security since we were not able to run away from the helpers after we had eaten the chicken. I tried to run away but my legs wouldn't move and faster than I knew I sat in a cage. I was very tired and fell asleep. I woke up in a single box (that's how they call the big tiled prison cells. The next day they gave me an injection and when I woke up again I was still sitting in this cell. When I had a look at myself I was shocked to learn that I had been neutered. Without asking me! After a week I was released from prison but I was still very skinny why they wouldn't bring me back to the temple with my colleagues. I have lived at the shelter for quite a while and since I am still a little skinny I might stay here forever. But I did not give up hope for a new owner because I am a very nice affectionate dog. I jump up on every visitor and hope to find a new home this way someday.

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was living at the DRCS, Pearl and Ken from Keri Keri in New Zealand were looking after me. Thank you very much!

HEIDI SONG (female)

I was found abandoned under a house. The owner heard me mewing in the middle of the night and came out in his pyjamas and slippers and found me. I was hungry and thirsty so he fed me and looked after me. He would have kept me but his resident cat (a big monster) just regarded me as his next meal; hence my admission to the shelter. The good news here is that none of the other cats want to eat me as there is plenty of food to go around.

Yvonne from Munich in Germany is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

ARIEL (male)

I lived in a small village in the south of the island. I didn't have any particular owner but enjoyed the donations of food from the stall owners in the market. However, the local butcher took exception to the theft of some meat off his stall. He chased me around the market for what seemed likes hours. I thought it was a great game at first but when he grabbed a knife I wasn't as impressed. Luckily, the butcher stopped the chase and telephoned Brigitte to take me away. This she did and so I now live at the shelter. The workers and volunteers are nice here and don't chase me around the compound when I steal food from them.

Tanja from Mannheim in Germany is looking after me now. Thank you very much!

MELLY (female)

When I was 3 months old I was brought to Brigitte's house by Keum, a volunteer helper. Keum was at the beach when she saw a young boy who was carrying me in his arms. Unfortunately, he was holding me a little bit too tight so I was screaming all the time. The boy obviously didn´t know what to do with me and was very grateful when Keum offered to take care of me. Well, now I am here and think it's great. Brigitte has a lot of good food for me and enough water. But you know what's best: Nobody just grabs me since there are a lot of other cats who are carried around and who are great pals.

Kerstin from Stockholm in Sweden is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

OLIVER  (male)

I'm scared of everything! I'm scared of loud noises, the dark, cats and even geckoes. My owners got fed up with me as they wanted me as a guard dog and I got frightened of the burglars when they broke into the house. As a result, as well as my owners having their DVD stolen, I was brought to dog rescue. I'm getting better now and am not so frightened of everything. I like it when the volunteers come round and brush my beautiful coat.

Mira from Finland is looking after me now. Thank you very much!

NURIA (female)

I didn't have an owner and was wandering around Ban Rak checking out the other dogs there. I found a few nice doggie friends and I used to play with them (and steal their food). After a few days, my friends' owner let me stay with her and all seemed well. Then the landlord came to visit. He said that there were too many dogs: three were OK but not four. My new owner argued and argued but to no avail so now I am here at the shelter. I've had an operation so I can't have any puppies and I'm given lots of food and water. I make sure that I play with all the volunteers and visitors when they come into the compound.

Good news: I found a home on Koh Samui. While I was living at the shelter, Leena from Oskarshamn in Sweden was looking after me. Thank you very much!

BARICHELLO (male)

I'm just a wanderer. I used to wander around Lamai but the stallholders at the market didn't like me and chased me on. I moved to another patch but, again, the shop owners didn't like me and chased me away. I then wandered into the garden of a tourist who immediately fell in love with me (not difficult as I am a handsome dude). She looked after me (or rather I looked after her) for a few weeks until she had to go home. She couldn't leave me to wander the streets and market of Lamai any more so brought me to dog rescue where I now stay. I'm happy here as I'm not frightened away by nasty humans.

Great news: I found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was living at the shelter, Paula from Tampere in Finland was looking after me. Thank you very much!

ARIANE (female)

I am one of the dogs that sneaked in to the DRCS. After once more all the dogs were counted in compound no. 10, they found me. I was a "blind passenger". There are two dogs in this compound that look very similar to me. That´s why I could run around there unseen. When the helpers found out that I didn´t have a green tattoo yet, a big discussion started. At first, I couldn´t understand why they made such a big fuss out of that green tattoo. Now I know. All femals that have such a tattoo don´t need to have babies anymore. Nevertheless, the tattoo seems to be an entrance ticket to the shelter. I now have one as well. Nobody could find out how I got there but I now have a card with picture. I am now a regular member of the shelter an am looking for a sponsor who assures that my bowl is always filled.

Susanne from Vienna in Austria is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

LUCY (female)

I was found wandering on the busy road in Lamai. I had become disorientated and didn't know where I was. Several cars tried to run over me but I managed to survive. I was picked up by one of the Thai workers at the shelter when he was on the way to work. I thought I'd have to stay here for ever but...

Surprise, surprise: One day my owner turned up at the shelter and took me home. Of course, I was very happy. While I was at the shelter Nevis from Switzerland was looking after me. Thank you very much!

SANG SOM  (male)

I was brought into the shelter as my owner had become too old and frail to look after me. My owner was going to live with his family and they didn't want me. Nobody in the area would look after me so I was brought here. When Brigitte asked why I was called Sang Som, she was told it was because that was the name of my owner's favourite drink!

Ruth from Effrikon in Switzerland is now looking after me. Thank you very much!

TUNA (female)

I was picked up in the Fishermen's Village in Bo Phut (hence my name). I was a street dog but had recently been attacked by some other dogs in the area and I also started to develop mange. Brigitte arranged for my admission to the shelter and she says I can only get out if my mange clears up, I have
the operation to stop me having babies, and I can look after myself if I go back out on to the streets. I don't care if I stay here for ever and ever. I like it here.

Jaana from Tampere in Finland is looking after me now. Thank you very much!

CANDY (female)

I live at the DRCS since 2003, at that time the shelter at Ban Taling Ngam didn't even exist. After a car accident some nice tourists brought me to Brigitte's house. One of my back legs was broken and since we are in Thailand, they could treat my leg only by keeping it still. Unfortunately, complicated operations are still not possible in Thailand. Therefore, Brigitte gave me pain killers and a lot of good food. After a while my leg healed and I only limp a little bit. When the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam was completed I moved there with many of my doggie friends. We settled in very well and play all day together. We have the biggest compound of the shelter. You wouldn't believe how you can run there.

Nevis from Switzerland is looking after me now. Thank you very much!

SPIKE (male)

Emma, one of the volunteer helpers brought me to Brigitte. She found me on Koh Phangan where nobody wanted me. I had mange and therefore smelled really bad. So, me and Emma took the ferry to Samui. That was cool! Now I am in the big shelter and I am very happy. I like it very much because I have many friends to play with.

After a while I found it too boring in the shelter and I ran away. While I was living at the DRCS, Emma from Ashammar in Sweden was looking after me. Thank you very much!

DANNY (female)

I have caused great debate at the shelter as every member of staff has a different version of my origins, e.g. picked up in Lamai, brought in by a tourist, abandoned by my owner. I don't care where they think I came from as I'm happy here just eating and sleeping.

Hurrah, I found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was at the shelter Jannet from Albertslund in Denmark was looking after me. Thank you very much!

HIPPY  (male)

I was living in my owner but became ‘detached’ from her one day when she became ill and had to be taken to the hospital. Nobody thought about looking after me! I was getting really hungry and started to steal food from the neighbors'’ bins. Someone spotted me and recognized me and tried to catch me. That proved difficult but eventually I let myself be caught. I was brought to the dog shelter as my owner is too ill to look after me any more.

Good news: I have found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was living in the shelter the Clayton Family from UK was looking after me. Thank you very much.

JUPTY  (male)

Petra (my favourite volunteer) arrived one day wanting to carry out a census of all us dogs.  What followed thereafter was a great game of ‘Catch me if you can’! Petra ran around the compound trying to catch each dog to take its photo. All of us dogs let her get quite near us before we ran away in the opposite direction. What fun we had that day! As the day went on, Petra’s face got redder and redder. However, in the end, we let her take each of our photos and now here I am. Nobody knows how I got here or when I got here but here I am and here I will stay unless someone on the island wants to give me a home.

The Centrum Group from Oskarshamn in Sweden is looking after me now. Thank you very much!
