Polly Poodle before and after a visit to Daeng's Beauty Salon
|
POLLY POODLE (female) I was found by Dany from Divepoint - I had been serious neglected by my owners. I had been allowed to have too many puppies, my right eye was seriously injured and my front right paw had been damaged. I stayed down at the big shelter for a while and the vet operated on me, taking out my right eye, making sure I wouldn't have any more puppies, and he dressed my paw. My ears were also cleaned out (they were very smelly). Brigitte would not let me go back to my owners as she didn't trust them to look after me so I was brought up to her house in Chaweng where I now live. Apart from the bath and the dubious haircut, I'm very happy here. I usually hide away in the shadows until my favourite people come to visit - that's Brigitte, Werner, all the volunteers and all the helpers. I've put on weight since I came here and I am threatened with a visit to Weightwatchers. I stayed at Brigitte's house for a long time. Allison, a voluntary helper for many years, took me home every weekend. She works in Surat Thani and therefore she could only take me on the weekends when she was on Koh Samui. After I had spent a few weekends with her I decided to go for long walks. One day I just did not return. I am a very sweet poodle who can make friends easily! While I staid at the shelter, Brigitte and Peter from Erkrath in Germany were looking after me (they fell in love with me when they visited the shelter). Thank you very much.

HEIDI SONG (female) After an accident, I was brought to DRCS. First the vet thought that my back legs were completely paralysed because I couldn't move properly. However, every day I got special injections and after a week I managed to move a bit. Every day one of the volunteers gave me special physiotherapy and for a while I had to wear special bandages on my back feet. I can now walk really well. Great news: I have found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was at the shelter Eva and Henning from Karlsruhe, Germany were looking after me.

SNOOKER (female)
I was a lonely little puppy living by myself under a bench in front of a beauty salon on the main Chaweng road. I didn't have a pack so all the older dogs were bullying me around and stealing any food that the salon employees left out for me. They were mostly just giving me scraps of rice or chicken bones, which could make me choke to death! I was so skinny because I wasn't getting the right nutrients that a puppy needs. Then one night in the rain, I was chewing on a stick by my bench when two nice people, Connie and Eric, came up to me and started playing with me. Next thing you know, they came by a few times everyday to feed me yummy dog food and protect me against the bullies that tried to steal it while I ate. They were so nice to me and named me "Snooker". My new friends, Connie and Eric, soon took me for a ride in a taxi and brought me to my new home at Brigitte's house, the DRCS. I wasn't socialized so I was very scared when they put me with other dogs but since everyone was so nice to me there, I learned how to get along and made some good doggy friends along the way!
Connie and Eric from San Fransisco in USA are looking after me now. Thank you very much!

MANOLITA
(female)
I was living nearby a school in Chaweng together with my mom and my three sisters Antonita, Maria and Lolita. One day our mother didn't return home and the school teachers were of the opinion that it would be better for us to be brought to the DRCS. There were also some dogs running around the school which could eat us alive. In Brigitte's house there were at least 40 cats at that time and they were not so happy about having to share the fish. For the first hours we were scared. It is great to have sisters at the hour of need. But after a short time we settled in well. There are always mothers who still have milk and we are always very eager to get some of it. Now we are all searching for a sponsor or a new home on Koh Samui. But it won't be easy to rehome us since we are neither three-coloured nor blue-eyed. The standard grey-white model is not very much in demand. But I do not want to mourn, we all live happily together here. After a heavy storm during the monsoon, a big palm tree leaf has damaged the fence around the cat house and Manolita has escaped. We hope she's find herself a good life out there... Daniela and Claus from Vienna in Austria were looking after me during my time at the shelter. Thank you very much!

LIZZY (female)
I was brought to the shelter by my owners because they had just had a baby and, because I was very curious about the baby and wanted to kiss her all over, my owners thought this wasn’t a good idea so brought me here. [Incidentally, baby toys taste really nice, especially when chewed up into a million pieces.] I now live at the shelter with lots of other doggies but, alas, no babies or babies’ toys to play with. My favourite hobbies now are looking cute and chewing the shoes of anyone in the compound. After a while it got too boring for me at the shelter and I decided to take my life in my own paws. While I was living at the DRCS Angelica from Sweden was taking care of me. Thank you very much!

TIRAK (female)
I came to the DRCS when I was about 6 weeks old because I was found helpless and lonely on the ring road. Brigitte fell in love immediately when she saw me. She is very fond of three-coloured cats. But she is not the only person to have this liking. We are also called lucky cats! I was named TIRAK, how beautiful! Tirak is Thai and means „my darling“. I do not have to worry about my future since I am not only very pretty but also very affectionate. There are many cats of my age at Brigitte's house and it never gets boring. Jipee! I found a new home on Koh Samui. While I was living at the DRCS, Dorothee and Klaus-Peter from Nufringen in Germany were looking after me. Thank you very much.

CHICO (male) I lived around some bungalows in Maenam but, in that area, all the dogs and cats are regularly poisoned. An animal-loving tourist took me to the big DRCS shelter at Ban Taling Ngam. However, there weren't enough people there to amuse me so I kept jumping the wall and chasing the cats. Brigitte brought me to her house at Chaweng and there I share the compound with the very old and sick dogs. Here, it is no problem for me to get the best place to sit. I am very strong and healthy and I chase all the other dogs away. After the last fight, I was put outside the compound but I jumped the wall to get back in (they can't outwit me!). I found a home on Koh Samui I am very affectionate to all humans - I just drive humans nuts because I chase all other animals away.

SAMKA (female) Originally I come from Hua Hin. Werner and Brigitte spotted me during a trip to Hua Hin and took me together with 3 other companions to Samui. They actually planed a simple visit to a friends place and wanted to relax on the beach. Well, they weren't really able to do that as they can't just look away when they see dogs or cats in need of help. Lucky us! I really like Koh Samui. Immediately I got myself a place on the terrace at Brigitte’s place. I have only three legs and my fur doesn’t look so pretty either. But in Hua Hin I learned to stand my ground. Dogs only fight over the best chilling-places over here. There is more than enough food for everyone. When I first I arrived in Samui, all I did for three days was eating and sleeping and eating, even dry food. You never know when you get your next meal…so I still thought in the back of my mind. In the afternoons they pick up Reis and other Food-leftovers from certain hotels. I can tell you: Some of that stuff is absolutely delicious! Tina and Volker from Kassel in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

Vielen Dank!
