SPIDER (male)

I lived happily with my owner and his wife in Lamai. One day my owner died and I am very sad about that. Unfortunately, his Thai wife didn't show any interest in me after his death. Therefore, I was brought to the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam. At the beginning I was very sad because I had loved them both and wasn't used to the life at the shelter at all. But I was put in one of the nicest compounds where I found a lot of new play pals. Of course, I still hope to find a new nice owner.

Sabrina and Enrico from Berlin in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

LING LEK (female)

I was brought to the DRCS by my owner since he had to go back home somewhere in Europe for 4 weeks. When he came back and wanted to pick me up, I bit him. I had gotten used to living in the cat house and did not want to return home with him. He then left without me. The next day, he came back and I ran away. They corned me and I started hissing and made him understand that I would not leave this place. He must have understood me because he started to have a look at the other cats. There were many that ran around his legs and wanted to be cuddled by him. He left with a red and white cat. Of course, she is not as fat and blue eyed as I am. I feel extremely well in the cat house and meanwhile I even gained a little more weight. Since my ex owner has a new cat now, he of course doesn't pay for me anymore.

A few weeks ago a new helper started working at the DRCS. He fell in love with me immediately. At first, I was a little bit shy, but after a while I started liking him a lot. Therefore, I went home with him. I do not need a sponsor anymore.

SHERRY (female)

I was brought in by a nice Thai lady who lives in the north of the island. Although she liked me very much, her neighbour didn't and he had tried to poison me twice. So, to protect me, my owner brought me to the shelter where I now live. Because I am so handsome, all the human visitors come and speak to me and I let them pat and stroke me.

After a while it was too boring for me at the shelter and I ran away. While I was living at the DRCS, Catherine from Calgary in Canada was looking after me. Thank you very much!

PONG  (male)

I have been living at the DRCS since the year 2000. I was brought to Brigitte's and Werner's house by some tourists together with my brother PING when we were 3 years old. I not only had lost my mother but also my fur. It was itching badly and I was always hungry. I had been chased away very often because people were scared that they might catch a disease. It was a very hard time for me! But that was over when I came to Brigitte's house. I immediately got a delicious rice meal and dry food was always at hand. I was at dog's paradise! Well, not quite. One of the helpers sprayed me with some stinking liquid every week – that was not really great. Nevertheless, the itching stopped already after the first treatment and very soon my fur began to grow. When I was brought to Brigitte's house there didn't exist a wall around the house so we all played around on the terrace. There were not so many dogs at the house and cats didn't live there at all. After a while they built a fence around the house and I had to quit my walks to the market. It even got worse! On the 15th of November 2002 the first compound of the shelter in Ban Taling Ngam was completed and I was brought there with many of my dog friends. We have a lot of space to run around – but unfortunately there are not as many visitors. I love to be stroked.

Annemarie, Manuela and Volker from Langenzenn in Germany are now looking after me. Thank you very much!

HUGO (male)

I was brought in because I was a mangy little puppy. Here, they give me special medicine every week and my hair has started to grow back. When I'm old enough, Brigitte mutters something about a special operation and the word 'snip' is mentioned. What does she mean? I'm safe now that I'm at the shelter, I don't scratch and scratch all day long and there is plenty of food. Long may this continue.

After a while I found it too boring in the shelter and I decided to run away. While I was living at the shelter, Sabine from Zurich in Switzerland was looking after me. Thank you very much

LUMPI (male)

I'm in a bit of a mess. I was hanging around the market at Nathon and made friends with a lovely Thai stallholder who started to feed me. As soon as I wasn't looking she caught me and brought me to the shelter where I'm now being treated for my mange. I look forward to becoming handsome again.

After a while I found it too boring at the shelter and I decided to take my life in my own paws. While I was living at the DRCS, Regine and Gerald from Vienna in Austria were looking after me. Thank you very much!

LONGI (female)

I was brought to the shelter by a tourist who was worried about me and my road-crossing skills. She said I wasn't fit to cross the road on my own as I don't look left and right when crossing, I just march across. As a result, I had several near misses and my tourist chum couldn't handle this. So, I was brought to the shelter where it's OK. The food is good and I get to tease the volunteers when they want to check me - I let them get within a half metre of me then I run off and they have to chase me. Good game!

ZIGGI (male)

I was brought in from Big Buddha Beach. I was playing in the water with one of the tourists and, when I came out, she was worried as I had so little fur. This is because of mange. My tourist friend brought me down to the shelter where I'll stay for a while until the mange has been cured then, hopefully, it's back to playing on the beach near Big Buddha.

After a while I was strong enough for the beach life again and was brought back. Of course, I am very happy to be back at my old place.

While I was living at the shelter, Petra from Birmensdorf in Switzerland was looking after me. Thank you very much!

TSCHABA (female)

I was brought in by one of the helpers at the shelter. I had been wandering around the market but my skin was in a bad condition and my hair was falling out. I am now being treated properly and my hair is growing back, albeit slowly. It's better at the shelter as I don't have to fight for food.

Heleen from Amsterdam in The Netherlands is now looking after me. Thank you very much.
