NAILA (female) I belonged to a Thai family who were moving away and they couldn't take me with them. So, I am now living at the big animal shelter. The food is OK but I miss the family. Tanja from Basel in Switzerland will now looking after me. Thank you very much!

MAEO (female) My owner brought me to the shelter as I had been poisoned (his neighbours didn't like me). I was brought just in time and Dr Joe gave me three special medicines to counteract the poison. After a few days I was fine but my owner never came back to collect me. However, maybe that was my destiny as I was really needed here at the shelter: one of the cats who had just had kittens (Herzilein) ran away so I moved into her basket and looked after the kittens. I tried to feed them but couldn't as I had had an operation to stop me having babies about two weeks before. Other motherless kittens continued to arrive at the shelter so I make sure I have several of them in my basket at night so I can keep them warm and clean. The second picture on the left is of me and Mameau as we both look after her kittens. It's nice that Mameau lets me help in this way as I like kittens. After a while I decided to take care of myself again. Taking care of all the babies was just too much for me. I ran away and am now enjoying my freedom! Dorothee and Klaus from Nufringen in Germany were looking after me while I was at the shelter. Thank you very much! |

STICKY (male) I came into the shelter as a tourist thought I had been in a car accident. However, the vet said that the damage to my back right leg was a typical one inflicted on dogs like me who chase chickens. Apart from the fact that my back leg dangles, I am fit and healthy although that could be due to the amount of chickens I have been eating. I may have a broken back leg but I can still jump high walls so I escaped from the shelter. Thank you to Daniela from Boppard in Germany for looking after me while I was in the shelter.

JAMES (male) I was born in Lamai and had been dumped as a puppy near some of the bars there. I was picked up by two tourists (Ross and Miki from Japan) as I was running about among the traffic. They can't take me home to Japan as they already have another four dogs who might eat me! So, I was brought to the Shelter and they are my sponsors. I like it here as I play with all the other dogs, particularly Hocky and Cleo. Good luck for me as I've found a real home on the island. I'll miss the other doggies but now I have humans of my own. Thank you Ross and Miki for saving me and being my godparents while I was staying with Brigitte.

SNOW (male) I was the first puppy to be born in Brigitte's clinic. My mother is Miss Shy and, as you can see from the photograph, I have grown up to be a lovely, healthy dog; I am now much bigger than my mother. Andrea from Germany is looking after me. Thank you very much.
