The Story of Met

In 2007 we went to Thailand for some weeks of vacation. We mainly stayed in a small fishermans village called Huay Yang, situated some 300 km south of Bangkok.

On our first day at the beach we met Met, a homeless, hungry, dirty dog with flees in his fur. He accompanied us every day at the beach and was very happy to see us every day and always came running towards us. We gave him food and helped him to get rid of the flees. He tried to follow us to our house, but didn’t dare to go all the way, because of other dogs in the village.

After three weeks we were about to leave Huay Yang. The night before departure we went to a restaurant close to were Met normally left us when we went home from the beach. Sitting at the restaurant in the dark night, Met all of a sudden came to our table! After leaving Huay Yang we were sad that we had to leave Met behind.

A few weeks after returning home to Sweden, we still missed Met. We therefore decided to try to get him to Sweden. We searched on the web for solutions, and found Brigitte at the Dog Rescue Center Samui (DRCS). Brigitte promised to help us if we could transport Met to Koh Samui (250 km from Huay Yang). It was difficult to find someone that could catch the dog and transport him with car and boat to Samui. After five weeks we got in contact with Mia and Göran, who works a lot with helping and feeding the wild dogs in Huay Yang. Mia and Göran brought Met all the way to Koh Samui.

At DRCS Met received medical care and all vaccinations required. In the end of march 2008 he was ready to travel to Germany. He flew as cargo with Thai Air and we met him at Frankfurt Airport. He was very happy to see us again.

Beacause of different rules in Sweden Met had to stay in Germany for four months. We had booked place for Met at Bär Hundepension outside Köln. It was of course sad to leave him again, but Bär helped us a lot and it was a good place for Met.

Finally, in the end of July, we could bring him home to Sweden. He has accomodated well and loves his home and his family. He has gained weight (4-5 kg), muscles only. The fur is now thick and he doesn’t freeze. He loves to run free in the forest or at the beach. He sleeps in the bed or couch and has never destroyed anything in the house.

It was a lot of work getting Met to Sweden, but it was worth all the effort and money. But we coldn’t have made it without the help of DRCS, Mia and Göran, and Bär hundepension.
